  • Visited the park back in 2019. The Casa del Tramezzo di Legno building is so called because of the well-preserved wooden screen, which was used to separate the atrium from the main room. The latter houses a low marble table and some seats, although I’m not sure if these were originally part of the house. It’s pretty obvious the house must’ve belonged to a wealthy individual. The walls seem to have been painted in a red theme, but sadly most of it is gone and were left to only imagine what once was. The house is worth a detour if you have time.
  • The Tramezzo di Legno house in Herculaneum represents a house from the Roman era which was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79. The house was brought to light following the archaeological excavations of ancient Herculaneum and owes its name to the discovery, to the its interior, of a partition, in charred wood. The pre-Roman house was buried under a blanket of mud caused by the fury of Vesuvius. It was definitively brought to light and explored thanks to the work of Amedeo Maiuri between 1927 and 1933. The peristyle has a colonnade on three sides and a garden in the centre. Under the portico several frescoes were found including one that reproduces a basin with a fountain, surrounded by ducks, a heron with a snake and an ox's head.
