Chiesa Matrice di San Giovanni Battista, Fasano

A very appreciable church which unfortunately was tampered with in the late 1960s. Of considerable importance, however, are many movable and architectural assets. Among these are the altar of the Most Holy Rosary made of gilded wood and the Elevated Chapel dedicated to the Madonna di Pozzo Faceto. This type of chapel raised above the level of the Church is found in Puglia only in five churches (in Monopoli in the Cathedral, in the Mother Church of Polignano a Mare and in Putignano there are two examples and then there is the example of the Mother Church di Fasano) and can be traced back to the "camarines" of the Spanish churches. A visit if you are in the area is a must.
