Create an itinerary including Gorizia Castle
Gorizia Castle occupies a hill above the city, providing panoramic views of the area. The city's ancient heart, the castle survived numerous modifications over time, changing its function from administrative center to prison. Bombed during World War I, the structure later underwent painstaking renovation to bring back its medieval look. Inside, visitors can explore a museum dedicated to the Middle Ages, with reproduction of various period sidearms. Also there is a music room with replicas of ancient instruments. • This is a wonderful example of a medieval castle. It is a ruin but well maintained as a tourist attraction. Be prepared to do some uphill walking.

  • We came here walking from the railway station in Nova Gorica, where to we arrived from the lake Bled in Slovenia. The castle is currently closed, but the space around it is very tidy, and there is a big playground in the beginning of the walkind path near the big parking lot.
  • Interesting location, nice museum, but not a single info in slovene language! Only in Italian and a few in explanations in German. A lot of Slovene tourist- border is few metres away - but NOT A SINGLE TOURIST INFO IN SLOVENE LANGUAGE! Shame on you! Same situation is in town in restaurants, churches... Completely devastated park-wood on "slovene-side" of castle hill (in the east part of hill). Main building and buildings on hill top are nice.
