    Was lovely visiting this Santuario. More grand and modern on the outside but lovely inside. Worth a visit. This Sanctuary is just outside the Walls of Lucca.

    I was intrigued by the exterior as seen from the City Walls so I took a walk over to see the church. It was very simple inside and there wasn't anything going on. Apparently I missed the museum! :(

    I entered at 6:430am.. as a pilgrim on the Francigena way... The sisters were singing la morning laude... very nice Pilgrim's morning start... of the day...worth going for a prayer in the sainta Gemma's presence.. . I talked to the priest and had my Pilgrim's credential stamped to remember this holy moment. Do not miss this holy place when you are on pilgrimage
