Trip Planner: Europe / Italy / Campania / Province of Salerno / Amalfi Coast / Salerno / Castello di Arechi
Overlooking Salerno at a height of 300 meters (985 feet) is Castello di Arechi. From here, enjoy a full view of the city and the Gulf of Salerno. Built during the sixth century, the settlement has been traced to Norman, Angevin, and Aragonese styles. The castle is currently used to host exhibitions and conferences, and can be entered for free every day except Monday. If you're heading there by bus, be sure to note the timetable for your return before heading off. The only reason to go is the view. Not really a museum, but there was a small art exhibit. Not one part of the castle is restored, and is actually just ruins. The cafe was not open in Sept. 2022. I recommend you take the bus from Salerno, as you can use your pass to get back down the mountain after you leave. You cannot pay for a bus ride if you try to get on when you leave, and no way to call a taxi. DO NOT walk the road up or down. There is no shoulder. And it's treacherous.
What a must in Salerno. Beautiful, peaceful castle, with a lovely woodland surrounding it. The views are absolutely fantastic, the ticket is about 4€ and it's definitely worth it. On top of that at the end of the visit you can enjoy a drink or a snack in the bar, right inside the main castle, just delightful.
