Immerse yourself in some of Italy's most significant works of art at Museo dell'Opera Metropolitana. The gallery features a collection of works from the Duomo, including the main altarpiece and a piece of stained glass. Climb up 130 stairs to the panorama viewpoint for what is arguably the best view of Siena. Be warned that the stairs to the top are small and winding, so not suitable for all visitors. Also, only 30 are allowed up at a time, so lines may form--don't be surprised if you have to wait a bit. Upon entering this museum you have the option of purchasing a ticket solely for entry here, or a combination ticket which also includes the crypts, baptisery, and panoramic viewpoint. Using our world travel planner, Siena attractions like Museo dell'Opera Metropolitana can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

To visit the Museum you can buy the OPI Pass which costs €13 and this gives access to the cathedral, Piccolomini library, Museo dell'Opera del Duomo and Facciatone, Crypt and Baptistry. It is well worth purchasing the OPI pass online. The museum is open 10:30-18:00pm. During our visit to Tuscany we visited over 50 different tourist attractions and found that visiting this museum was one of the least busiest tourist places we visited. We did not have to wait long to enter the museum. We were able to freely walk through the museum without having to stop and wait to enter the rooms. We only had to wait about 15 minutes to visit the Facciatone (panorama view) as one group was in front of us. They limited the number of people visiting the view point at one time. You were then allocated a certain amount of time to take in the views before being expected to come down and let the next group up. This gave everyone opportunity to take in the views in this time. If visiting the museum and the Facciatone I suggest you look at the queue outside the museum and if too long go and visit the other facilities and return later. The museum contains a number of artifacts that were found in the cathedral.

Very nice museum across the kathedral of Sienna. Hardly any people in it. Very nice statues and tapestries and icon's from the past. Do not forget to go to the arch upstairs for a fantastic view of Sienna and the surroudings. Entrance is included in OPA ticket.
