Located within a larger park commemorating the bombing of Hiroshima, Atomic Bomb Dome haunts with the memory of the lives lost during the attack. Now designated as a World Heritage Site, the former exhibition hall was the only building that remained standing near the bomb's hypocenter; today, it memorializes the 70,000 who perished immediately in the bombing, as well as the additional 70,000 who passed away from the bomb's aftereffects. Though you cannot enter the ruin, you can approach and circle the surrounding gate to see light flooding through the skeleton of the building. • This is an incredibly harrowing and poignant place. It is almost the exact location of the detonation of the atomic bomb. It is amazing that they have preserved it and it is a must see if you are...

  • There is no better argument against atomic weapons than this building. Learn the history of the event that changed the world here.

  • A recommended place to visit. Amazing to see that this structure still remained after the bomb was dropped. Surrounding the dome there are many beautiful parks. I would also recommend renting a bicycle and cycling around the area. Recommended!
  • A visit to the A-bomb Dome is a must if visiting Hiroshima. It’s hard to believe that there was much discussion about whether to preserve the ruined structure that (mostly) survived the 1945 A-bombing to remove it to allow the city to move on. Thankfully, the preservation argument prevailed and the iconic structure, surrounded by modern buildings, both serves as a memorial to the dead, a warning for future generations and and a symbol recovery. It’s worth going by the A-bomb Dome after dark when it is respectfully illuminated and there are fewer people around.
