Head uphill to see Zakimi Castle Ruins, part of a World Heritage Site protecting the remnants of the Ryukyu Kingdom. Built by the Chuzan Kingdom in the 15th century as a defense against the rebels of the north, the castle stood as the kingdom defeated its rivals and united the island under the Ryukyu banner. Today, only the stone walls and palisades remain, although their design and structure still capture the imagination. Visit the onsite museum to learn more about the citadel's history, then stroll the grounds and take in the extensive views of the surrounding area. Put Zakimi Castle Ruins and other Yomitan-son attractions into our Yomitan-son online journey planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • Nice small detour on the way to the hotel, visiting the castle is free but it's worth to pay the Y 500 extra for the small, but modern museum at the entrance to lean a bit more about Okinawan history....  more

  • A super nice stroll with a good vista. The castle was relatively small but well kept. Expect to spend only ~20 minutes here.
  • Awesome site to behold. Great overlook as well. Nice open area within for pics and picnics
