Kosovo's iconic Newborn Monument commemorates the small country's independence from Serbia. Unveiled on February 17, 2008, it consists of 3 m (10 ft)of block letters spelling out the word "Newborn." The letters were originally painted bright yellow and later re-painted with the flags of countries that recognized Kosovo's independence, which today amounts to just over half of UN member states. The monument is repainted differently every year and unveiled on the anniversary of the country's independence.
