Create an itinerary including Salaspils Memorial Ensemble
In a quiet forest sits Salaspils Memorial Ensemble, created in memory of thousands who died in a concentration camp at this site. Menacing dark-gray stone statues represent suffering men, women, and children. A large marble block marks a massive grave while a metronome beats from under the ground, simulating heartbeats. Look for numerous toys scattered around the yard, a reminder of the children who perished here from hunger, cold, and disease. • When visiting the place the statues make a big impression, but while walking around you also hear a sound of a heartbeat, which make the atmosphere special.

  • The ensemble itself is very epic monument. Inside the entrance building there is fresh exposition about the history of the Salaspils camp. There is even some video materials and pictures. Information....  more

  • Was great to learn something new, which hasn't been teached in history class. At least this wasn't. Heartbeat gives chills. Inside there was a little ultrasound coming from the text plate, but it wasn't so bad. Stone statues look great, and inside the building you get an explanation what they mean.
  • I suggest to arrive to Salaspils Memorials by walking. Isn't far from the the train station and the atmosphere there is magic! The entrance for the park is free, for the museum I suggest to check on the website.
