Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres
Amid olive and cork trees on a hillside, find Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres, the most important Megalithic site in Portugal. With 96 stones, this archeological complex is one of the largest groups of its kind in Europe. Discover the various structures that make up this impressive site, including cromlechs and menhir stones. Take in the scenic landscape and explore the site's history, which stretches back thousands of years. View the recently discovered formation, which wasn't known until Henrique Leonor Pina happened upon it while doing fieldwork in 1966. These stones were erected between the sixth and fourth millennium BCE, from the Neolithic to Chalcolithic periods, and were most likely used for religious and ceremonial purposes. Put Centro Interpretativo dos Almendres at the forefront of your travel plans using our Evora trip planner.
