Walk down the boardwalk at Ribeira do Porto, a popular historic district packed with cultural offerings. This area is home to Ribeira Wharf and Riveira Square--one of the city's oldest squares, built in 1389. The narrow side streets are lined with colorful homes, lively bars, traditional restaurants, and small shops. Meander along the pier for views of the Duoro River and bridges. You can also take a river tour by boat. • Good to wander around and take in a drink from one of the bars overlooking the river. We went for Sao Joao festival in June 23 which was frighteningly busy on the night and was quite intimidating.

  • We loved staying in and walking around this area at all times of the day and night. Pretty views of the river and area across the river. Fun, spirited section for walking around and dropping into...

  • The Douro Valley River Cruise was an outstanding excursion! It was a seven-hour boat ride up the River viewing the many bridges and passing through locks, which included Europe's tallest river lock and concluded with a tour/tasting at a local port wine producer's facility, which was followed by the 90 minute air-conditioned bus ride back to Porto. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
  • It is a nice area for a walk or for a run (although, there are many tourists, even in the spring time). The sunsets here are amazing and it really has this great vibe going on with the street musicians, local restaurants and of course, the view to the world famous Luis I bridge.
