Meant to be the final resting place of Charles I of Spain, Royal Chapel of Granada is an example of Renaissance architecture that acts as a centerpiece for the city of Granada. In the main chapel are effigies of Isabel and Ferdinand, known as the Catholic Monarchs. Under the elaborate arches and buttresses you'll find El Greco paintings alongside works by Jusepe de Ribera and Alonso Cano. The mishmash of architectural styles and paintings of various periods is no wonder, considering the cathedral took 181 years to build. • We felt this site was over rated. You can see the whole thing in 20 minutes and everything is, of course, in Spanish. I believe there was an audio explanation available on your phone but my battery...

  • If you like history you must visit it, since it is the place where rests Isabella de Castilla. The grave is amazing but also the building is a masterpiece. The ticket is separated from the cathedral.....  more

  • I was genuinely impressed with this chapel and everything it houses. The marble mausoleums are so beautifully made and well kept. I love the richness of the history that these structures carry. The altarpieces are so intricate and captivating, it's hard to peel yourself off these beautiful pieces. No photos are allowed inside the actual chapel, but everything is etched in my mind. The museum portion of it is just as fascinating. It's incredible to see the crowns, scepters and robes worn by the king and queen themselves. Truly incredible.
  • There are a couple of coffins here. I suppose it was Isabel la Catolica, Ferdinand, and their kids(?) The building is big and there are many paintings, and sculptures, as well as rope, cape, and crown and everything revolves around Isabel and the royal family of Spain from back then. Nice place to visit but you have to be respectful and quiet during your visit!
