Naval Museum reflects the fact that, although Madrid itself is land-locked, Spain’s rulers have profited from the country’s extensive coasts for centuries. The history displayed here begins with the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella I and Ferdinand II, who authorized Christopher Columbus’ expedition. On view are the earliest still-existing map of the Americas and scale models of ships, among many other items of interest. Entrance is inexpensive, but you must bring a photo ID to be allowed in. With our world travel planner, Madrid attractions like Naval Museum can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Very interesting museum, well worth a visit, and is free, but we made the 3euro contribution. Allow 1-2 hrs here.

  • Awesome value for a free museum. They ask for a 3 euro donation, but really they should be charging a 15 euro entry fee. This is way more interesting than art museums. Lots of super interesting models and maps and weaponry. It's actually a lot larger than we expected, this is definitely worth the stop in Madrid. We spent maybe 1.5 hours, but could have easily spent 3-4 if you stop to look at everything.
  • This is a fantastic museum. It’s also a naval museum, Spain’s naval museum…so in a nutshell it’s got world class exhibits reflecting this great country’s proud maritime history and global influence. Its incredibly well laid out and oozes class. I love visiting these museums and reading the historical Spain v Uk v France naval ego slapping commentaries, this one is no exception. Info Staff: Super friendly. Entry: €3. Bargain price compared to the rest of Madrid’s museums. Exhibits: 100’s Time: Basic tour 2hrs. Studious 4. Naval buffs 6. Admin: English signage. Lifts so no accessibility issues.
