Peniscola Castle
A 14th-century castle built on the remains of a Moorish citadel. Study information displays and artifacts to learn about the castle's past, such as its period as the residence of the Avignon pope in the 15th century. Located at the highest point in the city, the castle offers stunning views of Peñiscola and the coast. However, this does mean that there is steep walk up. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes and bring water with you. Find out how to plan Peniscola trip without stress by asking Inspirock to help create an itinerary.

The castle is built on rock jutting out into the sea with beaches either side and the port. Fantastic views from the top of the castle, but many steps to reach it. Many shops, bars and restaurants on the small streets surrounding the castle. Also there is the castle garden which is accessible on the same ticket as the castle. Price reduction for children and pensioners. Wear sensible footwear, the streets are cobbled with stones and can be slippery. Enjoy.

Great experience, very well kept castle and really has a Templar feel to it still, you can almost imagine them walking those halls. Great views of Peñiscola and the sea. Lovely staff, free roaming inside. Clean facilities. Definitely worth a visit, whether or not you're interested in historical architecture.
