Create an itinerary including Iglesia Colegial del Salvador
Iglesia Colegial del Salvador is many things, and “subtle” or “understated” are not among them. The history of this church begins with the 9th century, and over the years it has had various influences, both in architecture and religious affiliation. You’ll see Roman, Visigothic, and Muslim elements in the present-day building, which is Baroque in style overall. There are 14 altarpieces and a sculpture by Martínez Montañés. Buy the joint ticket to see this and Seville’s cathedral without waiting in line. • No tickets checked. Church was full of floats on Great Wednesday. Eight in total. We were not sure whether they ended up there after their processions or were staged for their turn.

  • Here's a tip. If you haven't bought your Seville Cathedral tickets, go to this church and buy the combo that includes admission to Salvador and the Seville Cathedral and La Giralda. Even if you don't go see the Seville Cathedral the same day, you can use that combo ticket to go another day and completely skip the long line to buy tickets. There is not nearly as many people visiting this church. We walked right up, bought our combo ticket, enjoyed this wonderful church and then the next day went to visit the Seville Cathedral. While everyone else was sweating and standing in line, we bypassed them all. Such a time saver! Besides practically no line, you get to see this church which is spectacular in its own way. The music they pipe through speakers just adds to the ambience. It's also quieter and easier to revel in the quiet beauty.
  • The sheer opulence of the place is even for Spanish historic church standards exceptional. Do visit. Do not let the not-so-special outside put you off. The beauty is inside. Ticket €5. Together with the cathedral they have a combined ticket €11.
