Trip Planner: Europe / Spain / Valencian Country / Province of Valencia / Valencia / Museu Faller de Valencia
Experience a piece of Valencian culture at Museu Faller de Valencia, featuring life-size figurines made of cardboard, wood, and plaster. This art form originated with junk thrown out at the end of winter--the owners would dress it up and draw faces on it, and the humorous tradition caught on. The museum displays some of the best pieces, which date back as far as 1934. These days, the figures are brightly painted and resemble caricatures. They often portray political themes, or comment on trends, society, and sexuality. No guides or brochures are offered, but there is a video explaining the history of the figures. A really interesting experience and well worth a visit. It's not huge and only takes about an hour or so but the ninots are brilliant.

Experiencing only the first day of this year’s fiesta, Sunday street parades, it was great to see the full import of figures and models from past years. Fascinating to learn of the museum’s purpose..... more

Absolutely astounded at the craftsmanship. Would love to see the associated fiesta. The models/ figures were so detailed and ornate. Very worthwhile to visit.
If you are in Valencia, this museum us a must see. If you get a chance to visit Valencia for the Fallas Festival itself you will be amazed by the fabulous constructions on every street corner all of which are burnt on the final evening. If you can't visit then, go to this museum and a get a flavour of the Festival. Brilliant! We have been several times.
