Housed in what was once a home to Count and Countess von Hallwyl, Hallwyl Museum gives a glimpse into the life of Swedish royalty, particularly during the Victorian period. The estate was given to the Swedish government in 1920 on the grounds that it would remain unaltered. Today you can walk the halls of this preserved historical home, which exhibits about 50,000 objects and artifacts collected by its former tenants. The Countess acquired many pieces of art during her travels with the intention of eventually founding a museum. Along with the Skokloster Castle and the Royal Armory, this national museum is part of a government agency grouping that educates visitors on the history of Sweden. A spectacular museum! A beautiful mansion. A must see when in Stockholm. We were surprised it wasn’t better known on the tourist circuit. You have the place almost to yourself. It’s just stunning, full of amazing detail and old world charm. A beautiful home available to visit. We didn’t eat there, but the restaurant in the courtyard has a great atmosphere. I would eat there next time I visit.

A beautiful mansion located in the heart of Stockholm! Great museum - an absolute must see for everyone when in Stockholm. If you know Swedish, I would recommend taking an excursion: it is really worth it. History and art tied together make an interesting combo. Many magnificent and famous art pieces to see, as well as beautiful furniture pieces. Easy to visit with kids.
