After the city's medieval castle was destroyed by fire, Royal Palace was built in the same spot and has served as the king's residence since the 18th century. Located in the city's old town area, this castle has over 600 rooms and five museums. Following the destructive palace fire of 1697, the current structure was built by architect Nicodemus Tessin in 1754. Tour the palace grounds and buildings to see its 18th- and 19th-century interiors, museums, and royal costumes. Many visitors like to catch the changing of the guard ceremony, which has been a tradition since 1523. Main thing we went to see was the guard change. It is very popular and the area is very strict on where you can watch it. The horses can block the view of your not careful but they are a good part of the experience as well. Guard exchange took easily almost an hour. It started a bit early with seeing guards enter as well. Also visited the free museum more to the south.

Marvellous, pristine and indeed, Royal. No one can miss a visit here - absolutely perfect for a walk around the palace with many more beautiful monuments (and moments) in the summer days. Change of guards is very interesting to watch.
