Admire the impressive collection of Scandinavian art housed in a historic mansion at Thiel Gallery (Thielska Galleriet). The gallery displays the collection of Ernest Thiel, a wealthy banker and a renowned art enthusiast, and is located inside his former home. The mansion itself is a sight to see, the work of famous architect Ferdinand Boberg, completed in 1907. Inside, next to period furnishings, you can see works of celebrated artists such as Bruno Liljefors, Anders Zorn, and Edvard Munch. In addition to Scandinavian masters, many of whom were Thiel's personal friends, the gallery also displays works of Paul Gauguin and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, while its garden is adorned by Auguste Rodin's sculptures. The mansion is not wheelchair-accessible and features a few staircases which might be difficult to navigate for visitors with reduced mobility. • The gallery is the home of Thiel who collected a lot of paintings and works of art at the start of XX century. It is very interesting if you want to know something about the artists of Sweden and the paintings are amazing but it a pity because there are no explanations I English, so it is difficult to understand something for a tourist. Luckily also the staff is very friendly and they can give you informations.
  • We were greatly surprised by this museums. Great exhibitions and many great works of Nordic painters. The building itself deserves a visit. It also has a vey cosy cafe with great food and treats. Would definitely recommend!
