Create an itinerary including Rigi
Surrounded by three lakes, Rigi once inspired painter J.M.W. Turner to create a series of works studying its changing views and blue sunrises. Known to many as the "Queen of the Mountains," the Alpine massif features a towering summit 1,798 m (5,898 ft) above sea level. A year-round tourist destination served by one of Europe's oldest mountain railways, the idyllic region draws a growing number of nature lovers with an extensive network of walking trails and ski slopes. Gear up and tackle the mountain's hiking paths all the way to the summit, or sit back and enjoy the sweeping views on the cable car that departs from the small town of Kussnacht. See Rigi and all Lucerne has to offer by arranging your trip with our Lucerne trip planner.

  • We took the cog wheel train up to the top. Purchased tickets on the train on the day - ticket conductor was very helpful. Mt Rigi was covered in snow and gave our teens a bit of a winter snow...

  • Really beautiful views from the top. Must visit. We visited in November and the weather was good. Our entire visited was covered due to Swiss pass.

  • This mountain is easy to climb. Has good paths to go on and those views are stunning. At top is beautiful and you got nice view over the Alps but it is very touristic as trains come there also. But let it not stop you from walking much more fun and more to see. 1806 meters. Don't forget it's cold at the top or may rain 😉.
  • Queen of the mountains. Different sides to go up, but worth it. You can ski and hike here. Views are amazing. One side shows the alps and the other the Swiss plateau. Cities like Zurich, Lucern and Zug can all be seen.
