Create an itinerary including Cat Village Houtong
Built on the ruins of a deserted mining town thanks to the efforts of a team of volunteer workers, Cat Village Houtong now serves as a mini cat city, visited by many cat lovers. As the idea developed over the years, villagers started to construct cat decorations, sculptures, and even a bridge with a catwalk for the cats to come and greet you at the train station. Admire cat paintings, murals, and of course hundreds of real-life cats waiting to be petted. Find refreshments in the numerous cafes and shop for cat souvenirs, then relax by the pristine green river, accessible by a staircase. • Houtong is one stop beyond Ruifang on the train from Taipei. There are cats roaming about but not ones up for a cuddle. The gift shops, of course, are why you go. Everyone knows at least one...

  • We took our son there and he loved it, but note that the cats aren't super friendly because they are after all not pet dogs but cats that don't really belong to an owner. There are more tourists...

  • This is definitely a must visit place for cat lovers. There are a lot of cats here and cat themed souvenirs. I would recommend buying the cat themed souvenir coins. On the riverside portion of the village there is a relaxing waterfall. Be careful where you step because there is cat food everywhere. I deducted a star for cleanliness of the area as many buildings are rundown and show signs of decay.
  • The cat population is amazed, it's an excellent place to educate about animal rights. With known as a cat village, but the origin of this place was mining, deserved to take some time to walk upward to have a glimpse of the panoramic mining processing factory view which is also astonishing.
