Create an itinerary including Nieuwe Kerk
Although Nieuwe Kerk translates to "New Church," this site holds centuries of history. The Protestant church was founded in 1350. In 1584 William the Silent, a Dutch prince, was entombed in a mausoleum inside. This started a tradition of burying Dutch royalty in a private family crypt. The most recent burial was Queen Juliana and her husband Prince Bernhard in 2004. Climb the church tower, the second highest in the country, for views of Delft, The Hague, Rotterdam, and Rotterdam Harbor. Put Nieuwe Kerk on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Delft road trip website.

  • Very reasonably priced at €10 per adult for the new and old church and to go up the tower. The tower is nearly 400 steps, there are lockers to leave your stuff before you climb up, be warned only one way up and down, so can be a tight squeeze if people are passing, there are three viewing platforms at different levels, the two highest are quite narrow, there is also a stop where the bells are, I really enjoyed this, despite being afraid for heights, but may not be for you if you can’t to heights/narrow spaces. The church is beautiful with lots of info inside
  • The view is amazing ! You can climb to the top of the church and go all around. They are some landing so you can see the mechanism of the clock and the old bells. Just be prepare for the stairs, it takes a little time and effort if you’re not use to it The inside of the church is beautiful as well
