Zuiderzeemuseum displays the history of the people who lived along the shore of the Zuiderzee before it transformed into the IJsellmeer. For centuries the Zuiderzee operated as a key shipping port. However, in 1932 the Afsluitdijk, or IJsellmeer Barrier Dam, closed off the saltwater inlet known as Zuiderzee, and turned it into the freshwater lake known as IJsellmeer. The open-air museum covers 6 hectares (15 acres) and presents a way of life that has since disappeared. Explore the small fishing village with authentic buildings from the region, including a church, fish-curing shed, mill, cheese warehouse, shops, and homes. Visit the indoor portion of the museum to see the largest collection of wooden ships in the country, as well as photography and traditional costumes. We had heard so much about this open-air museum which exhibits the old Dutch coastal life and culture i.e. houses, fishing nets, workshops etc al. It's really a great place for a day trip.

Is a very nice place, just like jump into 100 years ago fish village. The indoor museum is full of knowledge about this area and the outdoor museum just amazing. I spent 4 hours there and didn’t finish it just too big. But the traditional lunch set they sell on the website is 2 sandwiches and 1 bread with 1 banana and 1 apple juice, quantity and quaility is nice but I recommend just buy food when you arrive the restaurant

A fantastic huge museum. The indoor part has an audio guide and is very well made. Tells you stuff about fishing villages and how the sea became a lake, a lot of stuff for kids too. The outdoor part is a huge village, might need two days to actually cover it!
