Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Kawasaki Daishi and Kagurazaka. Head to Shimokitazawa and Ginzafor some retail therapy. Step out of Tokyo with an excursion to Soji-ji Temple in Yokohama--about 46 minutes away. There's much more to do: relax and rejuvenate at Waho-An NATURE Tokyo, take in the spiritual surroundings of Yushima Tenmangu, wander the streets of Ueno District, and contemplate the long history of Toshogu Shrine.

Kolkata (Calcutta), India to Tokyo is an approximately 14.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. The time zone difference moving from India Standard Time to Japan Standard Time is 3.5 hours. Prepare for cooler weather when traveling from Kolkata (Calcutta) in February: high temperatures in Tokyo hover around 12°C and lows are around 2°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 4th (Sat) early enough to fly to Kyoto.

Kyoto — 3 nights

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step off the beaten path and head to Kyoto Insider Sake Experience and Shimogamo Jinja. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Yasaka Shrine. Step out of Kyoto with an excursion to Byodo-in Temple Museum Hoshokan in Uji--about 42 minutes away. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, take in nature's colorful creations at Nanzen-ji Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, and make a trip to Daigo-ji Temple.

You can fly from Tokyo to Kyoto in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. Expect a daytime high around 11°C in February, and nighttime lows around 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Tue) early enough to fly to Miyakojima.

Miyakojima — 1 night

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Start off your visit on the 8th (Wed): take in the spiritual surroundings of Miyako Shrine, make a trip to Yamatoga, make a trip to Sabautsuga, then kick back and relax at Sawada no hama Beach, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Harimizu Utaki, and finally hunt for treasures at Atarasu Ichiba.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Kick off your visit on the 9th (Thu): stop by Misaki Town, stop by Yurateiku Market, take in the spiritual surroundings of Torinji Temple, get outside with Kaiji Beach, then head outdoors with Kondoi Beach, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Island Countryside Settlement. Here are some ideas for day two: delve into the lush surroundings at Oyakeakahachi no Mori, then get outside with Kubazaki Beach, and then get outside with Hairumubushi Beach.
