San Juan — 3 nights

Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Start off your visit on the 6th (Thu): get engrossed in the history at Museum of History, Anthropology and Art, then pause for some serene contemplation at Catedral Basilica Menor de San Juan Bautista, and then appreciate the extensive heritage of Sitio Histórico de San Juan. On the next day, get to know the fascinating history of Old San Juan and then get to know the fascinating history of La Muralla.

Rincon — 4 nights

A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
Escape the urban bustle at Fathom Charters and Paseo Lineal. Get a sense of the local culture at The Old Aguadilla Lighthouse Ruins and Rincon Art Walk. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Rincon: Isabela (Shacks Beach & Montones Beach) and Survival Beach (in Aguadilla). The adventure continues: tour the pleasant surroundings at Steps Beach.

You can drive from San Juan to Rincon in 2 hours. Other options are to fly; or do a combination of shuttle and car. In January, daily temperatures in Rincon can reach 34°C, while at night they dip to 28°C. On the 12th (Wed), you're off to Culebra.

Culebra — 3 nights

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Playa Carlos Rosario and Museo Historico de Culebra. We've included these beaches for you: Flamenco Beach and Brava Beach.

Traveling by combination of car and ferry from Rincon to Culebra takes 5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or do a combination of car, shuttle, taxi, and ferry. Expect a daytime high around 34°C in January, and nighttime lows around 26°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 15th (Sat) to allow time for the flight back home.
