Porto — 4 nights

Unvanquished City

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Largo da Oliveira and Praca da Republica. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Porto: Braga (Jardim de Santa Barbara & Sameiro Sanctuary) and Paco dos Duques de Braganca (in Guimaraes). There's still lots to do: make a trip to Ribeira Square, learn about winemaking at Cockburn’s Port Wine Lodge, get a taste of the local shopping with Mercado Bom Sucesso, and take a stroll through Ribeira do Porto.

For maps, other places to visit, traveler tips, and tourist information, read Porto trip planner.
