Ishigaki — 4 nights

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Discover out-of-the-way places like Prime Scuba Ishigaki Diving Center - Day Tour and Kondoi Beach. Step out of Ishigaki with an excursion to Canyoning & Rappelling Tours in Iriomote-jima--about 1h 55 min away. Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Nuremberg in April: highs in Ishigaki hover around 30°C, while lows dip to 24°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Wed) so you can fly to Miyakojima.

Miyakojima — 3 nights

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Step off the beaten path and head to Ikema Ohashi Bridge and Kurima Bridge. There's lots more to do: head off the coast to Shimojishima Island, identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, enjoy the sand and surf at Aragusuku Beach, and take in panoramic vistas at Makiyama Observatory.

You can fly from Ishigaki to Miyakojima in 2.5 hours. In April in Miyakojima, expect temperatures between 29°C during the day and 23°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 15th (Sat) so you can travel to Takachiho-cho.

Takachiho-cho — 1 night

The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Sun): explore the stunning scenery at Takachiho Gorge, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Takachiho Shrine, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Amano Iwato Shrine, and finally take in the pleasant sights at Amano Yasugawara.

You can do a combination of flight and bus from Miyakojima to Takachiho-cho in 7.5 hours. Traveling from Miyakojima in April, things will get slightly colder in Takachiho-cho: highs are around 23°C and lows about 12°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 16th (Sun) to allow time to travel to Yakushima-cho.

Yakushima-cho — 2 nights

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
Kick off your visit on the 17th (Mon): head outdoors with Nagata Inakahama, make a trip to Taikoiwa, then explore the stunning scenery at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley, then don't miss a visit to Jōmon Sugi, and finally don't miss a visit to Wilson Stump. Here are some ideas for day two: identify plant and animal life at Yakusugi Land.

You can do a combination of car, train, and ferry from Takachiho-cho to Yakushima-cho in 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of bus and flight. Expect a bit warmer evenings in Yakushima-cho when traveling from Takachiho-cho in April, with lows around 17°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Tue) early enough to fly to Tokyo.

Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
