San Juan — 2 nights

Walled City

Founded by the Spanish in 1521, San Juan is the oldest city under U.S. jurisdiction and one of the oldest in the Americas.
Your cultural itinerary includes sights like Old San Juan and The Poet's Passage. For shopping fun, head to Puerto Rican Art & Crafts or Plaza Las Americas. When in San Juan, make a side trip to see El Yunque National Forest in El Yunque National Forest, approximately El Yunque National Forest away. There's more to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Condado Beach and sample the fine beverages at Casa Bacardi Puerto Rico.

Fajardo is a small city and municipality in Puerto Rico (U.S.) located in the east region of the island, bordering the Atlantic Ocean, north of Ceiba and east of Luquillo. Kick off your visit on the 9th (Tue): step off the mainland to explore Cayo Icacos and then stop by Caribbean Trading Company Store.

Traveling by car from San Juan to Fajardo takes an hour. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle. In August, daytime highs in Fajardo are 88°F, while nighttime lows are 79°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 10th (Wed) so you can catch the flight to Culebra.

Little Island

With much of Culebra a nature refuge, the tropical island has been protected from overdevelopment, chain hotels, and the cruise set.
You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Flamenco Beach and Playa Zoni. Step out of the city life by going to Playa Tamarindo and Scuba & Snorkeling. The adventure continues: see the interesting displays at Museo Historico de Culebra.

Traveling by ferry from Fajardo to Culebra takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or do a combination of taxi and flight; or do a combination of car and ferry. In August, daytime highs in Culebra are 89°F, while nighttime lows are 80°F. You'll set off for Rincon on the 13th (Sat).

Rincon — 3 nights


A seaside playground in the Caribbean, Rincon was a small agricultural and fishing town until it hosted the 1968 World Surfing Championship.
Visiting Playa Crashboat and Tres Palmas Marine Reserve will get you outdoors. There's still lots to do: enjoy the sea views from Faro de Punta Higuera.

Do a combination of ferry and car from Culebra to Rincon in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or do a combination of ferry, taxi, shuttle, and car. In August, daily temperatures in Rincon can reach 90°F, while at night they dip to 80°F. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 16th (Tue) to allow enough time to drive to Cabo Rojo.
