Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Kids will enjoy Ponte de Dom Luis I and Walking tours. Next up on the itinerary: stop by Livraria Lello, contemplate the long history of Palacio da Bolsa, walk around Museu Serralves, and admire the natural beauty at Jardins do Palacio de Cristal.

Dublin, Ireland to Porto is an approximately 5.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of ferry and car; or take a bus. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Dublin in June: high temperatures in Porto hover around 26°C and lows are around 16°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 12th (Sun) to allow enough time to drive to Viseu.

Viseu is a city and municipality in the Centro Region of Portugal and the capital of the district of the same name, with a population of 99,274 inhabitants, and center of the Viseu Dão Lafões intermunipical community, with 267,633 inhabitants.Settled during the period of the early Iberian castro culture, the territory of Viseu was populated by a series of cultures, that include the Romans, Suebs, Visigoths and Moors. Family-friendly places like Aldeia Tipica do Fujaco and City of Mangualde will thrill your kids. Change things up with these side-trips from Viseu: Passadicos do Paiva (in Arouca), Santuario Nossa Senhora dos Remedios (in Lamego) and Miradouro de Sao Leonardo de Galafura (in Peso Da Regua). There's still lots to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at Igreja e Convento de Sao Francisco, walk around Aquilino Ribeiro Park, tour the pleasant surroundings at Parque do Fontelo, and explore the striking landscape at Serra de Sao Macario.
