Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Step off the beaten path and head to Rua Augusta and Centro Colombo. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Mosteiro dos Jeronimos and Museu Nacional do Azulejo. There's still lots to do: explore the historical opulence of Castelo de S. Jorge, cast your line with a fishing tour, take a stroll through Rossio Square, and get up close and personal with brilliant marine life at Lisbon Oceanarium.

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names.
Head to Palacio da Bolsa and Mercado Bom Sucessofor plenty of shopping. Take a break from the city and head to Matosinhos Beach and The Douro Valley. Get out of town with these interesting Porto side-trips: Quinta Santa Eufemia (in Lamego) and Largo da Oliveira (in Guimaraes). Next up on the itinerary: learn the secrets of beer at a beer tour and tasting, get to know the fascinating history of Rua das Flores, let the river carry you with a rafting and tubing tour, and learn about winemaking at Pocas Vinhos.
