February in Taipei sees daily highs of 23°C and lows of 16°C at night. You'll have a few hours on the 3rd (Fri) to wrap things up before traveling to Hualien.

You can take a train from Taipei to Hualien in 3.5 hours. Other options are to take a train; or drive. Cap off your sightseeing on the 5th (Sun) early enough to travel to Nantou.

Nantou — 2 nights

Kick off your visit on the 5th (Sun): see the interesting displays at Fenghuanggu Bird Park, see the interesting displays at Endemic Species Research Institute - Ecology Education Park, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Jiji Wuchanggong. Keep things going the next day: hike along Hanbi Trail, then head outdoors with Sun Moon Village Shueiwatou Trail, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Jinlong Mountain, and finally explore the wealth of natural beauty at Wenwumiaohoushan Park.

You can do a combination of train and bus from Hualien to Nantou in 5.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of taxi and bus; or drive; or do a combination of train and bus. In March in Nantou, expect temperatures between 25°C during the day and 16°C at night. On the 7th (Tue), you'll travel to Chiayi.

Chiayi — 3 nights

The provincial city in the county of the same name, Chiayi sits as the gateway to the national scenic mountain area of Alishan.
Escape the urban bustle at Green Tunnel and Fenrui Historic Trail. Step off the beaten path and head to Chiayi Confucian Temple and Chiayi City Koji Pottery Museum. Go for a jaunt from Chiayi to Meishan to see Longgong Waterfall about 52 minutes away. The adventure continues: see the interesting displays at Museum of Ancient Taiwan Tiles and don't miss a visit to Chiayi Garage Park.

Drive from Nantou to Chiayi in an hour. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or do a combination of bus and train. While traveling from Nantou, expect slightly colder days and about the same nights in Chiayi, ranging from highs of 19°C to lows of 18°C. On the 10th (Fri), you're off to Kaohsiung.

Harbor City

A small trading town in the 17th century, Kaohsiung now stands as a sprawling metropolis, its harbor representing the largest on the island.
Start off your visit on the 10th (Fri): test the waters at Floating Palace and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Yi Cheng Tang. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: take in the spiritual surroundings of Qiming Tang, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Xiao Nan Hai Guanyin Delubrum, then get great views at Old Railroad Bridge Education Wetland Zone, and finally admire the striking features of Guandi Temple.

Traveling by car from Chiayi to Kaohsiung takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or take a train. In March, Kaohsiung is somewhat warmer than Chiayi - with highs of 31°C and lows of 22°C. You will have some time to spend on the 12th (Sun) before leaving for Hengchun.

Hengchun — 3 nights

Located on the southern tip of the eponymous peninsula, Hengchun serves as the entry point to Kenting National Park, often attracting more travelers than locals with its tropical beach resorts and bustling night markets.
