Ishigaki — 4 nights

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Step off the beaten path and head to Rhizophoraceae Plant Community of Fukidogawa River and Island Countryside Settlement. There's lots more to do: look for gifts at Yurateiku Market, take some stellar pictures from Cape Ongazaki, stroll around Banna Park, and take in the waterfront at Nishi Pier.

Mumbai, India to Ishigaki is an approximately 11.5-hour flight. The time zone difference moving from India Standard Time to Japan Standard Time is 3.5 hours. Formed by the gradual merging of several old fishing villages, today the island town of Motobu-cho boasts paradisal beaches of white sand, clear waters, and a rich array of wildlife.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Kafu Banta and Tropical Dream Center. Explore Motobu-cho's surroundings by going to Onna Station Nakayukui Market (in Onna-son) and Katsuren Castle Ruins (in Uruma). There's still lots to do: head off the coast to Minnajima Island, stroll around Okinawa Memorial Park Ocean Expo Park, kick back and relax at Emerald Beach, and observe the fascinating underwater world at Okichan Theater.

Ibusuki — 2 nights

A coastal place of relaxation, Ibusuki stands as a hot spring resort on the southern tip of the peninsula.
Start off your visit on the 30th (Thu): get engrossed in the history at Chiran Peace Museum, then take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Kaimondake, and then don't miss a visit to Cape Nagasakibana. Keep things going the next day: explore the activities along Lake Ikeda, then cruise along JR Southernmost Nishioyama Station, then soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens, and finally make a trip to Ibusuki Bridge Muregawa Remains.

Traveling from Motobu-cho in December, expect Ibusuki to be slightly colder, temps between 14°C and 10°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Fri) to allow enough time to fly to Hakuba-mura.

Skiing enthusiasts traveling in Japan should consider a trip to Hakuba-mura: tucked away in the Northern Alps, this village hosted several competitions during the Nagano 1998 Winter Olympics.
