Situated in a basin between two mountain ranges, Taipei appeals to tourists with its blend of Asian cultures, living side by side amidst Japanese-era mansions and Taoist temples.
Step out of Taipei with an excursion to Chiufen (Jiufen Old Street) in Ruifang--about 46 minutes away. Spend the 30th (Sat) exploring nature at Yangmingshan National Park. There's much more to do: appreciate the history behind Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, stop by Ximending, make a trip to Elephant Mountain (aka Nangang District Hiking Trail), and take in the spiritual surroundings of Lungshan Temple.

If you are flying in from Taiwan, the closest major aiports are Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, Taipei Songshan Airport and Taichung International Airport / Ching Chuang Kang Air Base. In January, daily temperatures in Taipei can reach 22°C, while at night they dip to 16°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Sat) to allow time to fly to Suzhou.

One of the oldest settlements in the Yangtze basin, Suzhou remains a complex, labyrinthine set of old canal districts, World Heritage gardens, and sprawling modern developments.
Step out of Suzhou to go to Taicang and see Shaxi Ancient Town, which is approximately 1h 15 min away. And it doesn't end there: examine the collection at Suzhou Museum, walk around Tiger Hill, get a taste of the local shopping with Pingjiang Road, and admire the natural beauty at Humble Administrator's Garden.

Located on the south bank of the Yangtze River, Nanjing was the capital city of numerous dynasties over the ages.
Venture out of the city with trips to Yangzhou (Daming Temple & Slender West Lake). And it doesn't end there: stroll the grounds of Sun Yatsen Mausoleum (Zhongshan Ling), walk around Xuanwuhu Park, get engrossed in the history at The Memorial of the Nanjing Massacre, and steep yourself in history at Jiming Temple.

You can take a train from Suzhou to Nanjing in 1.5 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Suzhou in February, plan for much warmer days in Nanjing, with highs around 11°C, while nights are a bit warmer with lows around 1°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Sun) early enough to fly to Kaohsiung.

A small trading town in the 17th century, Kaohsiung now stands as a sprawling metropolis, its harbor representing the largest on the island.
Get out of town with these interesting Kaohsiung side-trips: Beutic Taiwan Tour (in North District), Anping Tree House (in Anping) and Chimei Museum (in Rende).
