Marbella, Spain — 2 nights

Once a village of humble fishermen, Marbella is now one of the most cosmopolitan beach resorts on Spain’s world-famous Costa del Sol, boasting swanky nightclubs, classy hotels, and expensive restaurants.
On the 1st (Mon), wander the streets of Marbella Old Town and then head outdoors with Outdoor Activities. On the next day, zoom along the surf with a waterskiing or jet-skiing adventure, go for a stroll along the water at Puerto Marina Benalmadena, and then learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Bioparc.

Though it is often seen as merely a stopover city, Plovdiv is actually a lively university town with bohemian cafes, a thriving art scene, and exciting nightlife.
Start off your visit on the 3rd (Wed): contemplate the long history of Bachkovo Monastery. On your second day here, don't miss a visit to Ancient Stadium of Philippopolis, then explore the ancient world of Plovdiv Roman Theatre, and then make a trip to Plovdiv Old Town.

Getting from Marbella to Plovdiv by combination of flight and bus takes about 10.5 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of bus and train. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Marbella to Plovdiv due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Marbella in August, Plovdiv is a bit cooler at night with lows of 20°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Fri) to allow enough time to drive to Ljubljana.
