Get some cultural insight at Les Champs Libres and Galerie David d'Angers. You'll explore and learn at Manoir de l'Automobile and Musee de Bretagne. Venture out of the city with trips to Musee des Beaux-Arts (in Angers), Nantes (Musee d'Arts de Nantes, Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne, &more) and Plerin (Pointe du Roselier & La Grande Plage des Rosaires). Caen is known for its historical buildings built during the reign of William the Conqueror, who was buried there, and for the Battle for Caen--heavy fighting that took place in and around Caen during the Battle of Normandy in 1944, destroying much of the city.
Get a sense of the local culture at Abbaye aux Hommes and Museum of Fine Arts of Caen. Get some historical perspective at Eglise Saint-Pierre and Abbaye aux Dames. Get out of town with these interesting Caen side-trips: La Maison du Camembert (in Camembert) and Promenade Marcel Proust (in Cabourg). There's lots more to do: get engrossed in the history at Musée de Normandie, explore the ancient world of Chateau de Caen, wander the streets of Quartier du Vaugueux, and take in nature's colorful creations at La Colline aux Oiseaux.

Discover the Alabaster Coast along the steep Normandy coast with spectacular chalk cliffs, a number of scenic villages, posh seaside holiday resorts, the Channel Islands, and the English Channel. As you explore the old towns, note the Norman architecture that follows a pattern similar to the English Romanesque architecture following the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. Typical Norman villages have many half-timbered houses in their old towns and historical vessels in their old ports. One of the most popular things to do along the Alabaster Coast is sampling its local products: The region produces hard apple ciders, Calvados apple brandies, and famous Bénédictine liqueur instead of wine due to its abundance of apple orchards.
