Rome — 3 nights

Eternal City

Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
Change things up with these side-trips from Rome: Tivoli (Villa Adriana & Villa d'Este). There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at St. Peter's Basilica, delve into the distant past at Palatine Hill, pause for some serene contemplation at Pantheon, and make a trip to Spanish Steps.

To see reviews, traveler tips, where to stay, and more tourist information, refer to the Rome visit planner.

If you are flying in from Germany, the closest major aiports are Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport, Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport and Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi – Umbria International Airport. In April, daily temperatures in Rome can reach 24°C, while at night they dip to 11°C.
