Takachiho-cho — 3 nights

The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
You'll discover tucked-away gems like Manai Falls and Omi Shrine. Popular historic sites such as Kaguraden and Amano Iwato Shrine are in your itinerary. Change things up with these side-trips from Takachiho-cho: JR Oita City (in Oita), Angel Kimono Rental Beppu (in Beppu) and Okuragahama Beach (in Hyuga). A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
You'll get in some beach time at Nagata Inakahama and Isso Beach. Step off the beaten path and head to Wilson Stump and Sempiro Falls. Spend the 19th (Tue) exploring nature at Yakusugi Land. Set on the island of Amami Oshima, the city of Amami serves as an oasis for tourists.

The town of Kumejima-cho spans several islands, including the main island of the same name.

Tourism in Shari-cho, a small town situated on Hokkaido's eastern tip, flourishes mainly because of its immediate proximity to the Shiretoko World Heritage Site.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Shiretoko Beach and Shiretoko Museum. Step out of the city life by going to Oshin Koshin Falls and Lake Rausu.
