Dijon — 7 nights

Gateway to Burgundy

Perhaps best known for its locally produced mustard, Dijon also makes a wonderfully flavorful crème de cassis, or blackcurrant liqueur, and boasts excellent examples of regional architecture with polychrome roofs made of tiles in terracotta, green, yellow, and black placed in geometric patterns.
Get out of town with these interesting Dijon side-trips: Abbaye de Fontenay (in Montbard), Lyon (La Place des Jacobins, Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon, &more) and Eglise Saint-Genest (in Flavigny-sur-Ozerain). Dedicate the 11th (Sat) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. The adventure continues: stroll through Owl's Trail, admire the striking features of Citadel of Besançon, admire the masterpieces at Musee des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, and don't miss a visit to Place de la Liberation.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiport is Dole-Tavaux Airport. In September in Dijon, expect temperatures between 70°F during the day and 51°F at night.
