Get lost in the art-filled halls of Pera Museum, whose numerous galleries put a special focus on Orientalism in the 19th century. The building itself took over the space of the old Hotel Bristol, founded in 1893, and was renovated to feature a Victorian-era facade. On the first floor, stop to admire collections of colored tiles and pottery, as well as Anatolian weights and measures. From here, continue upstairs to see more than 300 works by European, Ottoman, and Turkish masters, including Osman Hamdi Bey. While I agree with the previous reviewers of it not being so special, it’s relatively a good destination for İstanbul if you’re looking for something a bit different to what the city offers. The museum is in a good location with enough attractions and things to do without needing to go far. There’s a beautiful cafeteria and a small art shop with affordable prices but a limited options. With that being said, I would definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re in town and would like to experience something different.
