Cambridge University Botanic Garden
History and beauty come together at heritage-listed Cambridge University Botanic Garden, originally created in 1831 by Professor John Henslow, Charles Darwin’s mentor and teacher. The garden covers an area of 16 hectares (40 acres) and holds a collection of over 8,000 plant species from around the globe. The garden’s greenhouses alone contain over 3,000 species, brought to this location to display the world’s incredible diversity of plant life. Explore the site’s wide range of garden habitats, tree collections, and 144 island beds representing 80 families of flowering plants. Also included at this urban oasis of tranquility are important national collections of tulips, geraniums, alchemilla, bergenia, and lonicera, to name just a few notable plants. Absolutely stunning place. One of my favourite places to visit in Cambridge. Give yourself a few hours here to find peace and quiet here, to escape the city. A true sanctuary in the heart of a stunning city. The chronological border is a real treat, and the glasshouses are always stunning. My favourite part of the garden is the lower wet garden, with its wild feel and garlic border it feels like another world.

The flowers on the cacti were blooming very beautiful. The walks around the Gardens are very well laid out . Plants are labeled in most places. Lovely flowers and trees,, great map for layout. There is historical information at various points. It was quite beautiful and such a lovely day. The restaurant was busy but great. I had a wrap, which was really nice, cake and coffee which were also excellent. Then bought plants, herbs in the shop and a few other things. I had a wonderful day out and will definitely go again when next I visit my daughter and family. Well worth visiting.
