Suspected witches used to be drowned at Princes Street Gardens, now one of the city’s most notable parks, renowned for its impeccable lawns and lush woodlands surrounding Edinburgh Castle. Located at the heart of the city’s World Heritage Site, the park was created in two phases in the 1770s and 1820s following the long draining of the Nor Loch, an artificial lake that formed part of the castle’s medieval defenses. The site now includes several prominent statues and memorials, including the Scott Monument, a Gothic spire built in 1844 to honor Sir Walter Scott. You'll also see statues of the explorer David Livingstone and poet Allan Ramsay, as well as the world’s first floral clock, displaying over 30,000 colorful plants. • A lovely place to walk through or just sit and relax for a bit with a good book!! Very pleasant with the trees and plants in flower, their scent was traveling on the breeze. You wouldn’t think you were in the middle of a big city!
  • Princes street gardens is such a nice place to relax. Very tranquil when it’s not so busy and beautiful whether it’s busy or not. The lawns and flower beds are perfectly kept. The floral clock is an incredible sight to see and when we visited decorated for the Queens Platinum Jubilee. A must-visit attraction for ant time of year!!!
