At Hever Castle & Gardens, see where the famous second wife of King Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn, spent her childhood. Boleyn's brief marriage to the King--and subsequent execution when he sought a new wife--made her a key figure in the Church of England's 16th-century break from the Vatican. Today, you can see portraits from her era, paintings, furniture, and tapestries in the castle where she grew up. Outside, view Italian, rose, and Tudor gardens and walk around the water maze and shrubs trimmed into statues. Special events, such as gardening sessions with the Head Gardener and jousting tournaments, happen throughout the year. Check the schedule before you visit. You can also purchase an audio tour of the site at the Hever Shop, Information Centre, or entrance. A fabulous day at the gardens and castle. We enjoyed the Anne Boleyn exhibition and the castle, but the crowning glory of this place is the fantastic gardens. Clearly so much time and effort goes...

The castle itself is nice but for this place, it's all about the gardens. It has one of the most beautiful and diverse gardens with a combination and mixture of Italian, British, and Oriental styles. Kids love the water maze. After a rain, a walk through the gardens then around the pond in the late afternoon feels like magic. The lights during the Christmas season turns the place into a winter wonderland. One of the most beautiful places in South East England.

Great day out. Gardens are absolutely fantastic, especially the Italian Gardens. Loads to do and see. Plenty of places to get a bite to eat or an ice cream! The castle itself is also great to explore with all the main rooms fully furnished in near original style. Loads to keep the kids entertained too. Really enjoyed our visit.
