The Scottish Crannog Centre is a reconstruction of an early Iron Age loch-dwelling. You will learn all about crannogs, a type of ancient homestead found throughout Scotland and Ireland dating from 2,500 years ago. These structures were built out in the water as defensive homesteads and represented symbols of power and wealth. This authentic re-creation is based on excavation evidence. Your visit includes a self-guided exhibition, a guided crannog tour, and ancient crafts and technology demonstrations. A gift shop offers books, crafts, and other souvenirs. Check ahead for events, which could feature artists, musicians, or skilled craft workers. Please visit website for up-to-date hours and other information. Quirky find and all staff so passionate and knowledge and made the visit. Have a chance to make a clay pot, play some games and make some jewellery. The Crannog unfortunately has burnt down but in the process of rebuilding across the Loch ready for opening in summer 2023 so will revisit then. Worth a visit and kids will love it!

Such a interesting site! The staff are passionate about the era and helping others to understand how people of the iron age lived. The artisans are good at their crafts and explaining how their work would have fit into the iron age society. Definately worth the visit!
