Elegant and dramatic, Old Royal Naval College represents a former military hospital built between 1696 and 1712, now inscribed on the World Heritage List. The hospital was established on the ground of the former Palace of Palentia, the birthplace of Tudor queens Mary I and Elizabeth I. In 1873 it was converted to a training facility for the navy, though the elegant Baroque architecture was preserved. Visitors today can tour the painted hall, a dining hall intended for naval veterans and extravagantly decorated with floor-to-ceiling murals representing British power. Visitors can also tour the queen's palace, hospital, training facilities, and 18th-century chapel. With its twin domed spires, statues, and columns, the grand museum makes a stunning sight along the Thames. A friend and I booked afternoon tea on the day of the Coronation and what a disappointment. On arrival we were put into a room with one other (unoccupied) table, no music, no bunting, no atmosphere...

Average, ok to visit, but don't spend more than an hour. Not a lot of exciting things to see. Make sure you see the chapel, it's beautiful. Bill S, Savannah, GA USA

Absolutely stunning place to visit. The wall paintings of this room are absolutely stunning, totally worth a visit. Do get the audio guide, so you can listen to the whole history of this room and its origin. The ticket is affordable, so I would 100% recommend. Also the view from this is ever so beautiful and you can see the London skyline. There are a couple of restaurants nearby for food/drink. And parking is available either in the streets nearby or the designated car parks around.

The Old Royal Naval College is Sir Christopher Wren's riverside masterpiece and one of London's most popular attractions. Nice area to walk around - short distance from the town centre and market. Plenty traditional pubs also in walking distance. The area is perfect to visit with kids and have great connection to the city centre via the Thames Clippers.
