The largest and oldest occupied castle in the world, Windsor Castle has been a home to British monarchs since Henry I began using it in the 11th century. The focal point of your visit should be the staterooms. They date to the late 17th century, when Charles II set out to make the castle as lavish as Versailles. George IV further enhanced these rooms during his reign in the 1820s, and today you'll see how they reflect his extravagant taste. Make sure you see Queen Mary's dollhouse, which was built to a 1:12 scale and is the largest and perhaps most richly appointed dollhouse in the world. St. George's Chapel's fine gothic architecture and grand stone-fan vaulting make it a highlight of the tour. Before you start your visit, pick up a free audio guide in the courtyard. Excellent value for money. St George’s Chapel and the State Apartments Rooms are worth the entrance fee alone. Everything else is a bonus. Very highly recommended.

Have always wanted to visit Windsor Castle so it's nice to have ticked it off the list. Very efficient entry system. All staff were very friendly. You can get convert your ticket to a year long entry by visiting an office just after security. The audio guide process was efficient. We visited the state apartments first. There was lots to see and the guide was very informative without being too lengthy. There is a tribute exhibition dedicated to HRH Prince Phillip which was really interesting. We headed down to St George's Chapel next. Nice to see this in person. After our visit we took a walk down the long walk in Windsor great park which was pleasant. Just be aware that no photography is allowed inside the state apartments or St. George's Chapel. Would have loved to have taken pictures but I guess it makes it your visit all the more special to see it through your eyes rather than through a lens.

Perfect for a day out and I recommend buying tickets in advance. Amazing place to explore and stunning architecture. Audio guide is available. Taking photos inside the chapel and state rooms are prohibited. Still you can enjoy and appreciate the place inside and out. Highly recommended!
