Laniakea Beach may be one of Oahu's top surfing spots, but its star attraction remains the native "honu," the green sea turtles. The seaweed growing on the rocks scattered around this small beach is a source of turtle food, and you can often spot these creatures just basking in the sun or sticking their heads out of the waves. Although they don't seem to mind the incessant throngs of camera-toting tourists, state and federal laws protect these turtles, so remember that you cannot handle them. To learn more about their habits and peculiarities, approach one of the volunteers providing information and patrolling the beach. The definition of a TOURIST TRAP. IF there is a turtle out, you'll only know it by the mob of sunscreen soaked tourist surrounding it. They finally fixed parking so they have to use the crosswalks (Amen!). But there are so many better places to see turtles... but I'm not telling - all tourists should go here, so you're not hogging up the good spots. :P

This is a hidden gem. There is free parking across street with a pedestrian crosses. To get to beach there are several paths. Rocks and tree roots. Not safe for anyone that has difficulty with balance. Definitely recommend water shoes as there are rocks and such. There was a volunteer there that kind of kept the people in check to maintain distance from the turtles. On the far right beach area is a lot of rock and algae where tons of sea turtles go to eat. On the far left area is a nice beach area and sandy area to go into water. There are tons of rocky areas where sea urchins, eels, and big/small fish like to hide. Kids enjoyed snorkeling here the best. Just be aware you can come face to face with a sea turtle rather quickly and unexpectedly. Super cool to share their space and watch them. A couple of the sea turtles came up on to the beach as it was naptime in the sun. Great place!
