Experience Hawaiian nature at its peak at Waimea Valley, a huge area filled with a historical park including botanical gardens, waterfalls, and swimming holes. The area was once used to cultivate crops and orchards, including taro, sweet potato, and bananas. Today, the park boasts more than 5,000 plants from around the world, along with individual gardens dedicated to Guam, Madagascar, the Seychelles, and more. Swimming is allowed when cliff-diving exhibitions are not in process, or catch one of the hula performances. $25 per person to see a 45 foot high waterfall! And, $2 to park. Another money grab on Oahu. The area is beautiful but the money grab gets a bit much.

My wife and I visited the Waimea Valley botanical gardens back in mid-December. Although I don’t consider myself to be a person that is typically into flowers and plants, the botanical garden was stunningly beautiful and is a must see. The hike through the gardens was great exercise and every few feet there was an amazing flower or tree that we stopped to read about and/or take pictures of. Each bloom was more beautiful than the next and we were blown away throughout our 45 minute journey. The trail leads to a nice waterfall where a number a folks were swimming in the pool at the base of the falls. Also during our trip, there was a wedding taking place in a part of the garden which was such a picturesque setting. Overall the atmosphere was so serene and peaceful making this a very enjoyable experience for my wife and I. If you visit Oahu this botanical garden is definitely a must see.

Absolutely breathtaking views of the valley and flora of the island. I must've stopped every few steps just to take a photo of all the flowers and plants and wildlife roaming the area. Without a doubt this my favorite stop during my vacation. Everything growing is labeled so you know exactly what you're looking at. And believe me there is so much to see. Also I loved the explanations from the guides at the Hawaiian village huts. I wanted to learn more about life for natives to the island and the guides were so friendly and knowledgeable. I must've had a million questions and they explained everything perfectly. Please do not pass this place up! You can choose to walk or pay for a ride (cash only) but I promise you it's well worth exploring by walking. They also have restrooms along the paths and heading towards the waterfall they offer changing rooms if you want to swim in the watering hole as well as a place to get water and food (accepts card and cash).
