Home to the largest collection of Polynesian cultural artifacts, Bishop Museum was founded in memory of the Charles Reed Bishop's wife, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the last heir of the Kamehameha dynasty. Most of the original building was used as a school for indigenous boys. When the school moved, the museum expanded. In addition to the permanent collection, traveling exhibits move through the Castle Memorial building, and science exhibits are housed inside the Richard T. Mamiya Science Adventure Center. • The entrance fee to this museum is by donation. We found the exhibitions to be incredibly interesting as they showcase the war in the Pacific and the part played by people of Hawaiian/Japanese...

  • Incredible displays about the Pacific islands, the people and their cultures housed in a beautifully restored building all with informative explanations. Scheduled shows in the planetarium ... (additional fee, uncertain if reservations are required or suggested.) Special short-term exhibits, often with hands-on opportunities for children, are usually available in a separate building for all to enjoy. Yet another building is dedicated to offering information on volcanoes as well as our oceans and weather. There is a small cafe on the grounds as well as a very nice, though small, gift shop which has a good selection of very nice, quality items. The property is lovely; all the buildings are new or restored and they, along with well manicured greenery encircle a large grass area where the little ones can run a bit between the museum-like displays that are waiting inside. This is a must see for everyone, you will take away an insight and appreciation of this paradise that will make a lasting impression.
  • We, Joined friend's of bishop Museum. As a senior family member I'm able to bring my family and guest here right from the airport. Best way to learn about Hawaiian history and culture. Hope you join up too. When you do tell them Joe sent you... they will say Joe Who... That's me...😊
