USS Arizona Memorial marks the final resting place of one of the most iconic World War II battleships destroyed in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. More than 1,100 sailors and marines died here when Japanese forces attacked the harbor. The memorial, constructed in 1962, attracts nearly 1 million people each year. Begin your tour at the visitor center, where you can listen to a free talk about that fateful day and watch a brief documentary about the attack. You can then take a shuttle boat to the memorial, which straddles the hull of the sunken battleship. Remember that the memorial admits only a limited number of visitors each day, so it is a good idea to book a tour well in advance. Set aside time for a visit to the memorial museum so you can take in the personal stories of American soldiers who fought and died here. USS Arizona Memorial reviews
We went with a guided tour and managed to visit all the areas including the USS Arizona Memorial. It is crowded but very well run.

Absolutely worth seeing and spending time soaking it all in. If you couldn’t get online tickets, get up early the day you want to go and get in standby line by 6:15 am. Doors open at 7:00 am and the first boat to the memorial goes over at 8:00 am. Very good chance you will get on the first boat. There is no cost if you are in the standby line for the memorial. We were second in line and there ended up being about 30 seats. This is not a guaranteed way to get to go but often people are late or don’t show up for their time slot. Some lucky ones are able to get tickets online but if you are one of them, don’t panic. The day we were there we noticed everyone got on a boat and the last boat of the day had only 25 on it. Each boat holds about 75 people. There are several very interesting free museums on site. And plenty of plaques to read. You can also purchase tickets to see the submarine museum, the Missouri and an air force museum. All worth it. We didn’t get to do the air force museum but did everything else. That’s why it took 10 hours. Enjoy.
So this review will primarily address the Battleship USS Missouri tour. Arrived at Pearl Harbor National Park around noon on Friday and walked through security to purchase 2 tickets. No issues. If you have a military or veteran ID present it for a discount. Discount is only for the individual holding the card. Drove to the Battleship on Ford Island (ensure you can do that as the Island is actively guarded and has restricted access, if not no biggie as there is a nice air-conditioned bus to take you). We walked to the entrance. Go to the end, basically where the ship is, and turn left. Past the concession stands there is another checkpoint to enter the ship. They will take your picture there and then you proceed to the ship. If you want buy a bottle of water at one of the stores and you can bring it along otherwise no food and beverages are allowed. As we boarded a volunteer group informs you of a free guided 3 stop tour. We opted for the tour and enjoyed it greatly. Price seemed expensive but the experience was unique, educational, and fun. Highly recommend if you have the time.
